Panoramic harbour views meet refined interiors in this sophisticated penthouse transformation.

The Brief

Our clients purchased a 350m² penthouse apartment in the heart of Auckland’s CBD. While the apartment offered panoramic harbour and port views, the expansive open-plan living, dining and kitchen space felt more like a corporate office than a home.

They wanted to create a sophisticated yet welcoming environment, with distinct zones for TV and casual living, a formal seating area and a dining space — all without compromising the views.

Cooking and entertaining are a passion for them so the kitchen needed to be spacious and highly functional, with a higher-than-standard benchtop to suit the client’s height. They also requested a dedicated seating area at the island from which to enjoy the spectacular outlook.

The Design

We were engaged prior to purchase,allowing us to plan the kitchen and living areas in detail. The challenge was the sheer scale of the space — creating distinct zones without interrupting the panoramic harbour views.

We introduced subtle level changes: a raised living area beside the kitchen and a raised seating zone at the island, connected visually through the waterfall benchtop. This layering defined spaces while maximising vantage points.

The 5.2-metre island anchors the kitchen with a bold monochromatic scheme softened by textured cabinetry. Dekton Sirius provides a strong foundation, paired with a statement splashback and raised bar in Dekton Laurent. A walk-in pantry, vertical platter storage and full-height cabinetry maximise functionality, while a moved wall allowed for a discreet study.

The Result

The apartment has been transformed from a corporate-feeling space into a sophisticated yet welcoming home. Defined zones now flow seamlessly while framing the harbour views. The dramatic 5.2-metre kitchen island anchors the design, combining bold materials with generous storage. Our clients now enjoy a luxurious city retreat, equally suited to entertaining and everyday living.
