Objects of Desire – Tom Dixon’s Iridescence Collection
Welcome to my first Blog of 2016, I have been a bit later starting up again than I had intended but it has been a wonderfully busy start to the year.
Those of you who are regular readers of my Blog, may have noticed a different format on the Blog website. Hopefully it is easier to negotiate and to find interesting articles to read. Let me know what you think.
One of the new sections to my Blog is Object of Desire. This section covers new, interesting or beautiful interior design products or accessories (or a combination of these).

Iridescence Collection – Tom Dixon
I am starting off with a new collection from one of my favourite designers, Tom Dixon.
Tom Dixon rose to prominence in the mid 1980s as “the talented untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture”. By the late 1980s, he was working for the Italian giant Cappellini for whom he designed the Iconic ‘S’ chair.

In 2002 Dixon established his own brand under the name ‘Tom Dixon’. The Tom Dixon brand launches new collections of lighting and furniture bi-annually at the Milan international furniture fair and at London Design Festival.
Iridescence is the latest accessories collection, launched at January’s Maison et Objet show in Paris.
The Iridescence collection is split into two ranges; Oil and Warp. Oil consists of the range of home fragrances, all of which are presented in mysterious multi-colored vessels and feature a powerful & refreshing blast of woody essential oils. With melted edges and dented forms, no two containers are the same. The light refracting from the surface creates the lustrous effect of petrol on water or a dragonfly wing.
Warp brings together a mouth blown cylinder and semi-sphere, which are distorted, squashed and deformed whilst the glass is in a molten state. The mysterious iridescent finish is then applied by hand. Each artifact’s organic and irregular shape reflects and refracts light from the lustre glaze.

I love the colours and sense of movement in this collection. I may just have to go shopping
Other signature Tom Dixon designs are:
