Modern Nomad Key Components of this Trend

 

This week’s Blog is a continuation in the series on the five key Interior Design Trend themes for 2016. The Modern Nomad theme is based around the understanding that we are more mobile in the way we both live and work.

The impact that this increasingly apparent change in lifestyle is having on design for our homes is a growth in the need for furniture and other products that are multi purpose, space efficient and sustainable.

The key finishes that are emerging with this trend are concrete, plywood, chipboard, and reclaimed wood. The mixing of different tones of wood in the one piece of furniture or area of flooring was seen very prominently at the Décor and Design Melbourne tradeshow in July.

The concept of the art of surprise comes through strongly, a bit of the unexpected, not being too predictable. There is a move to “mix and mis-matching”.
