Before and After Case Study – Kitchen
This Kitchen was crying out for help, it was a 1980’s Provencal Blue and Yellow scheme. The brief from my client was to:
- Add colour and personality into this space.
- Create a functional family friendly Kitchen with great storage.
- Add a small Study.
- Add a storage area for the children’s sports gear and school bags.
- Include a Scullery.
- Include a small workstation area.
The meet this brief:
- I drew up the whole Kitchen, Laundry and Family Room spaces and looked at the best use of all these areas.
- I designed a new Kitchen that was about three metres further forward than the existing Kitchen. This allowed space for a small Study behind the Kitchen on one side with the Laundry beside that.
- Another area in front of that, behind the back wall of the actual Kitchen, was split into two and on one side there is a small Scullery and on the other side an area was added to house a wine fridge and a cupboard for hanging children’s school bags and sports bags.
- The island bench divides the Kitchen from the Dining and Family Room and also provides a wonderful focal point for the space.
- Beside the fridge there is a small bench area, which has power points for charging phones, the landline phone, drawers for paper, pens, school notices and family paperwork.
My clients were very happy with the end result – the addition of the Study freed up another bedroom for use as a bedroom, rather than the Study/Home Office. This added significant value to the property when it was sold a short time later.
