Before and After Case Study – Entrance/Hallway
This is the Entrance and Hallway in a Villa in Auckland. The brief from my client was to:
- Add colour and personality into this space.
- Improve the lighting so that they could highlight their stunning art collection.
- Provide a more impressive and welcoming entrance to the house.
The meet this brief we:
- Repaired the small rust spots in the pressed metal ceiling and painted it. Wow it is a stunning original feature of the house, back in top condition.
- Lifted and removed the old blue carpet.
- Sanded, stained and polyurethaned the original timber floor.
- Removed the old gas heater.
- Had central heating added to the whole house with a couple of vents in the Hallway floor.
- Had a new Front Door made, in keeping with the style and age of the house.
- Designed new windows for the Front Door and surrounding windows and had them made up by a craftsman in traditional leadlight with coloured glass.
- Designed a custom New Zealand wool runner rug with the same design theme as the glasswork.
- Removed the timber picture rail and painted the whole height of the walls the same light fresh colour.
- Removed the central pendant light and had gallery lighting added to the length of the hallway with specialist art lighting fitted to it.
My clients were very happy with the end result; the Hallway is brighter and more welcoming and enables them to showcase their artwork with appropriate lighting. At night, when the lights are on, from the outside the windows glow like warm jewels.
